5. Personal Brand Manifesto

Personal Branding Manifesto for Emily Kennedy
With resume attached

Personal brand position: Bettering relationships with both other people and yourself.

Personal brand mantra: I have the savvy, experience, and superior communication ability to be an asset to your company.

Recommendations for developing the brand to be more competitive: Be more proactive, less emotional, less stressed, and more confident.

Process
1.   Describe your life purpose in one sentence.
I aim to bring my life to work and my work to life.

2.   List your top seven values (from the value inventory).
Tolerance, wisdom, adventure, friendship, learning, nature, pleasure

3.   List your key competencies/strengths (what you are currently good at).
Problem-solving, initiative, energetic, self reliant, gathering, analyzing, and managing information

4.   List your key weaknesses.
Unassertive (unable to say no), procrastination, over-sensitive, impatience, over emotional, easily stressed

5.   How do others describe you? Report on the responses you received from the 360Reach questionnaire.
I was very surprised by the reviews I read on my 360Reach questionnaire. I realized that some people know me better than I thought I knew myself. I was impressed and also shocked by how well my friends, families, and colleagues could read me. For example, one comment said that I have the ability to organize and execute any task given to me. I will put all my effort into a task whether it interests me or not, because I am so motivated to do well. I am very sensitive and care deeply about others, regardless of how well I know them. This was an interesting comment because of how personal it was. I am still curious as to who wrote it. Before reading this, I would have never said the same things as this person said. But after reading it, I actually agree with all of it, and I guess it just takes an outsider’s perspective for me to realize that I actually am very caring and also a diligent worker for all tasks that come my way. Another very constructive comment I was given was one that said I have a tendency to get very defensive, and the person thought that I would be more confident in my abilities and less stressed if I learned to let this defensiveness go. I think this is very true for me because I don’t always have a high confidence in my work, so I feel like I need to constantly explain myself and protect my feelings from being hurt, even though it is unnecessary. A lot of the responses for brands of cereal I would be said I would be something healthy, which I agree with because I am pure and like to live a healthy lifestyle. A common weakness that people brought up was that I sometimes get too emotional, which I completely agree with. I brainstormed ways to deal with this, and I think that deep breathing and meditation exercises can help with this. The next time a conflict arises, I plan on trying to think to myself that not everything is as huge of a deal as I think, in order to keep my emotions balanced and not freak out unnecessarily.

6.   Reconcile the differences between your self-perception and what others say.
Most of the time I feel like I am reserved and apprehensive when I enter new situations. I would consider myself shy at first until you get to know me, but 360Reach would say otherwise. Almost everyone who responded said they would consider me outgoing, personable, and enthusiastic. I always knew that I had people skills, but it turns out I am able to hide my nerves better than I thought.

7.   List your personality/style when dealing with others.
I am very good at being reasonable when a conflict arises because I am able to objectively listen to both sides of an argument and diffuse a situation. I like to know as much information about a situation as possible before jumping to any conclusions. I also just very much dislike conflict, so I try to avoid it at all costs. I consider myself an easygoing and fun person to be around, so I try to keep a lighthearted vibe when I am around my peers. When working in a group project, I am usually the one who delegates tasks evenly among group members, and makes sure the project is on task to be completed in a timely manner. I also am a very compassionate person since I am so emotional myself, I am always careful about others’ feelings as well and try not to ever hurt them. I am sincere and pride myself in always being the person that people come to with their problems. When someone else is upset, I like to listen to their problems, empathize with them, and then distract from the situation with humor.

8.   List in one sentence each for your 3, 5, and 20-year career goals. Describe the target market for your career.
In 3 years I hope to have graduated college on time with a secured job in the marketing field and a livable salary. In 5 years I hope to have risen in my first job, or have found a new job where I am not just an entry-level employee, but I have a clear mission and goals, as well as my own home or apartment. In 20 years, I hope to have found my niche in the marketing industry with a job where I can reach to my highest potential, while still not having too heavy of a work load so that I can still support and be there for my family.

9.   Identify what differentiates you from your competition in this market.
Like everyone, I have different strengths and weaknesses. However, the difference about me is that I am actually working to improve these weaknesses and myself. For example, I have been told I am a poor planner and time manager. Because of this, I have adopted using a pocket planner religiously, as well as an online calendar to schedule my work and leisure time. Additionally, I am a person with remarkable people and problem-solving skills. From my years of experience in the restaurant industry, to my most recent internship this past summer, I have learned how to deal with conflict in a respectable manner as well as maintain strong, personal relationships with the people around me.
